Global Public Affairs team, based in Toronto, provides senior public affairs counsel to a diverse range of clients, including both the private and not-for-profit organizations. Their cannabisCONNECT team works with clients who are engaged in the cannabis industry on developing meaningful communications solutions to the most complex challenges and mitigating risk. As we move towards legalizing cannabis for recreational purposes the public will need to be assured that the product they are consuming meets robust standards for safety, quality, and that these products are rigorously tested. Rodrerick also comments on investments and mergers that are leading up to legalization.Cannabis company Aphria Inc. (TSX:APH) recently entered into an agreement to acquire rival Nuuvera Inc. (TSXV:NUU) for CAD 826 million in cash and stock. The move bolsters Aphria’s plans to expand globally, bolstered by Canada’s proposed legalization of recreational marijuana by mid-2018. The deal is indicative of a growing wave of consolidation in Canada’s marijuana industry as companies attempt to gain market share before sales become legal. Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX:ACB) and CanniMed Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:CMED) recently agreed to a CAD 1.1 billion merger.
