Will Illinois Be The Next Big Market For Cannabis
Will Illinois be the next big market for Cannabis with Jonathan Loiterman, Chairman & CEO at Green Star Growing, LLC. Today we talk about what many of the cannabis markets are keeping their eyes on. My guest is an Oregon-licensed cannabis grower, processor, and wholesale who firmly supports cannabis legalization and social justice in Illinois, but sees major flaws in this approach. He’s been following this story closely. Prior to Green Star, he was an attorney for nearly a decade for the Chicago firm of Lowis & Gellen. He chaired the Health Law section of the Illinois State Bar Association. Jonathan has written numerous published articles on the subject.
And he has been a Coordinator, Moderator, and Speaker multiple times in front of the Illinois State Bar Association, Jonathan spoke about the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program to the Chicago Hospital Risk Management Society. Under the proposed rules, no new large-scale commercial growers would be permitted to set up shop here, at least for now. Instead, the focus would be on small “craft” growers, with an emphasis on helping people of color become entrepreneurs in the weed industry. In addition, adults would be allowed to grow up to five plants per household, in a locked room out of public view, with the permission of the landowner. We speak about why these caveats are in place.
